Fashions Night Out: take 2

It's fall in the city and it's absolutely gorgeous here. In case you didn't get the calmly emphatic message on Gossip Girl, fashions' night out occurred on September 10th, 2010. It is, essentially an event for the plebeians. The ordinarily haughty salespeople put pleased smiles on their veneerless teeth as a tactic for appealing to the rabble. There is no sales, but it's for a good cause, right? Actually, only a portion of the sales go to the September 11th Museum and Memorial, last year it was $300,000 (only about 15 Valentino or McQueen couture gowns). Fashion's Night Out is all marketing, it's really just stores and designers exploiting a major tragedy. If there's anyone out there  that wants to play adult Halloween and go shopping in cleaned out stores without limited edition items (unless you count the dog collar McQueen released; he's turning over in his grave) for  hours, than you may do so on September 10th, 2011.

Ugh... The only thing worse than over the top faux charity events like this are those retailers who sell anything and everything pink to latch onto the Race for the Cure fundraising in October, but donate NOTHING to breast cancer research. I have so much more respect for companies (and people) who donate money without needing to get a public pat on the back for it.
